KATARA LODGE
Katara Lodge is luxury eco-lodge with 8 spacious cottages hand-crafted from local materials with canvas walls that can be folded away for uninterrupted views of the national park stretching out below. The luxuriously fitted ensuite bathrooms have a romantic roll top bath and an invigorating rain shower that provide a perfect way to unwind after a thrilling day on a safari.
We are keenly aware of the precious nature of the park and the flora and fauna we share it with. At Katara Lodge, we pride ourselves on offering a luxury safari experience while minimizing any impact to the environment. We use extensive rain water harvesting, all water is solar heated, and toilets are ultra low flush. All lighting is solar powered and our salt water swimming pool further reduces our reliance on harmful chemicals.
Location:
Situated on the Great Rift Valley escarpment with uninterrupted views of the Savannah, Lake Edward and the Virunga and Rwenzori mountain ranges beyond. Katara Lodge is a 20 minute drive away from the main entrance of the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s premier safari destination and one of the most biodiverse reserves in the world.
Activities:
Katara Lodge is the ideal base from which to explore the park and the many activities it offers including game drives, bird watching, the famous launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel, chimpanzee tracking in the Kyambura Gorge, and forest walks in the Kalinzu or Maramagambo forests, all of which offer truly memorable wildlife experiences and
incredible opportunites for nature photography.
Facilities:
Katara Lodge has seven luxury cottages suitable for single, double or twin occupancy, as well as one family cottage that sleeps up to four persons. All cottages have 24h hot water and electricity (sufficient for charging camera and phone batteries but not for operation hair dryers). An open game drive vehicle can be hired for game drives in the park.
We can also do transfers from nearby airfields and lodges.
